Kuta sits close to two of Bali's most popular riding directions: south along the cliffs to Uluwatu, and north along the coast to Canggu. Both are easy to reach by scooter once you know what the roads are generally like and how to plan your day, so here is a simple guide to each route before you set off.

Heading south: Kuta to Uluwatu

The road south takes you past Jimbaran and up onto the Bukit peninsula, where the landscape changes to dry limestone cliffs with the ocean visible on one side for long stretches. It is one of the most scenic rides near Kuta, passing beach turnoffs such as Balangan and Padang Padang on the way to Uluwatu Temple at the southern tip.

This route has more hills and bends than riding around flat Kuta, and traffic can bunch up near Jimbaran and around the temple car park, especially later in the day. Give yourself more time than a map estimate suggests, and plan to start reasonably early so you are not navigating unfamiliar cliff roads after dark.

Heading north: Kuta to Canggu

Canggu sits north of Kuta along the coast, past Seminyak. The roads there are flatter but narrower in places, with a mix of small lanes between rice fields, one-way streets around the cafe and co-working strips, and sandy patches near the beach access roads. It is an easy ride overall, but the narrow lanes mean lower speeds and more care around pedestrians, other scooters and parked cars.

Weekday afternoons and weekends tend to be busier around Canggu's main streets. If you are mainly sightseeing rather than keeping to a schedule, riding a little earlier or later in the day usually makes for a calmer trip.

General tips for both routes

Choosing the right bike for a longer ride

For a quick trip around Kuta and Legian, a Honda Beat or Scoopy is light and easy to park. For a longer outing to Uluwatu or Canggu, many riders prefer something with a bit more comfort and power, such as a Yamaha NMAX or Honda ADV 160, especially with a passenger or luggage on board. You can see the current range of bikes and compare them before you book.

Staying connected on the road

Having maps and messaging work reliably matters more once you are away from central Kuta. If you want data ready from the moment you land, you can add a Bali eSIM to your booking.
